Alex,

I have been using Sibelius since version 2 and have never had this problem before. I solved it by removing the Plogue engine and not using Sibelius Sounds. Didn't really wanna spend too much more time on the troubleshooting. If you have any more insight on the issue please let me know.

Best,
Bill

Hi Bill,

Are you still having this problem with Sibelius crashing when you try to save your work as a PDF? This is really weird, I have been using Sibelus on a MAC since version 3 (currently on 6) and have never seen this. Another way to save these files as PDF's would be if you have the full version of Adobe Acrobat, you can select print and then the acrobat distiller will be one of the available printers. Select the acrobat distiller as your printer, hit print and then the file will be saved as a PDF.

I hope you have this figured out but now.

Another work around I've found to this problem is to NOT us the Sibelius Sounds. Use Kontakt Sounds or anything else. I was also have a problem doing any kind of "Save As." Disabling the sounds that come with Sibelius seems to have solve the problem.

A little more info here: http://www.sibelius.com/cgi-bin/helpcenter/chat/chat.pl?com=thread&start=486942&groupid=3&&guest=1

Daniel,

Thanks for the workaround... I will try that. Actually the problem doesn't seem to happen at all with files created with the latest versions of Sib (6 and up) - just with very "old" (2006) files. So if the problem persists with old files, I'll try your workaround.

Regards,
Bill

You can try this workaround, which has worked for one person:

Please install the latest version of Scorch:

http://www.sibelius.com/download/software/mac/SibeliusScorch610.dmg

Once it's installed, go to /Library/Internet Plug-ins, right-click on Scorch.plugin and choose Show Package Contents. Go into Contents/Resources and find PlogueEngine.bundle. Hold Opt (Alt) and click and drag this to the desktop, making a copy of it in the process.

Now go to /Applications, right-click on Sibelius 6.app, and choose Show Package Contents. Go into Contents/Resources and find PlogueEngine.bundle. Make a new folder on your desktop called e.g. 'Original' and drag the PlogueEngine.bundle from Sibelius's Resources folder into the new Original folder. Now drag Scorch's PlogueEngine.bundle file from your desktop into Sibelius's Resources folder.

Scorch's PlogueEngine.bundle file doesn't even include the Sibelius Player code, so this may help completely eliminate it from suspicion. You can still use other VST/AU devices for playback, just not the Sibelius Player.

Let me know if this seems to make any difference.

Peter,

Thanks for that but I'm on a Mac. And actually the "Save as PDF" shows up in my "Print" window probably not unlike PDFCreator. This is something I've never experienced with Sibelius. For the time being, I have to print out and then scan the hard copies if I want a PDF. Actually this problem seems to have just come out of nowhere. Everything has been fine.... then this started a couple days ago. Really weird. If you hear of another solution, please let me know.

Thanks,
Bill

Bill, check this out:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/pdfcreator/
The software is called PDFCreator, and it creates a virtual printer in Windows that outputs a PDF. It's what I use, and it works very well for me with no problems.
