PALMDALE – Last week was soul, this week it’s jazz.On the heels of Super Soul Saturday: A Party For The Decades, the city summer concert series continues Saturday with get jazzed at the amp featuring the Herbie Kae and Tony Capko and Gina Eckstine and the Bill Fulton Band.Gates at the Palmdale Amphitheater and Marie Kerr Park 2723 W. Rancho Vista Blvd. (Avenue P) open at 4 PM and the show starts at 5 PM and runs until 10 PMSharing the stage with the biggest names in jazz including Rick Braun, Peter White, and Jesse J and Jazz Attack, The Herbie Kae and Tony Capko Band is an Antelope Valley staple. After backing major artists most of their careers, Kae and Capko have joined forces to blend their musical talents becoming a favorite at jazz festivals, concerts, and amphitheaters.The group will showcase selections from its latest release “Drive Time”, including traditional jazz, smooth jazz, funk, and rhythm and blues in the style of artists such as Grover Washington, David Sanborn, Richard Elliot, Gerald Albright, and Kenny G.Eckstine began singing professionally at age 7, performing in her father’s nightclub act. As a child she was inspired and guided by household guests including Quincy Jones, Sammy Davis Jr, Sarah Vaughan, and The Four Tops.The daughter of legendary jazz singer Billy Eckstine and model actress Carolle Drake, Gina has traveled the world opening for Count Basie, Davis, and Bill Cosby.Following an appearance on “The Tonight Show,” she developed her own nightclub act and spent a decade performing at major hotels and casinos in Lake Tahoe and Las Vegas; she continues to play Vegas, most recently at the Mirage.She also performs a tribute to her legendary father at many lost Angeles jazz hotspots, and has recently released a new album, “All I Have Is Yours.”Fulton, a California native, is a pianist, composer, arranger, and producer. During his career, he’s written music for Warner Bros. Animation, Hanna-Barbera Cartoons, Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon, and many TV shows and commercials.In 2002 he founded the Bill Fulton Band, which has played in many Los Angeles venues including the Playboy Jazz Festival.Tickets start at $8 and are available at www.palmdaleamphitheater.com. A limited number of VIP tickets are also available.Vendors will be selling food, beer, wine and soft drinks. Outside food, beverages and coolers are not allowed in the venue. However each attendee may bring one factory sealed bottle of water.Fans are advised to bring blankets or lawn chairs for seating.The summer concert series continues with the Commodores on September 10 and LeAnn Rimes on September 25.The Commodores replaced Salt-And-Pepper with DJ Spinderella, who were scheduled to perform on July 9 but canceled their appearance, while Rimes concert was originally scheduled for July 23 but had to be postponed due to the 40,000-plus-acre Sand fire.Tickets purchased for the July 23 concert will be valid for the September 25 show, city officials said and as a thank you for their efforts in fighting the fire and help with evacuations, members of the US Forest Service, Los Angeles County Fire Department and Los Angeles County Sheriffs Department will receive free admission for themselves and a guest to the concert simply by showing their ID or badge at the ticket booth.The revived “Bill Fulton Band” makes it’s debut appearance as “Bill Fulton & The Groove Lexicon” at the Get Jazzed At The Amp concert. California native Bill Fulton is a pianist, composer, arranger and producer.
