Bio

Bill has been very active in the Southland vicinity in and around Los Angeles, CA since 1987 when he moved there from the San Francisco Bay Area. As a matter of fact Bill’s only real intention on moving to Los Angeles was to attend the Dick Grove Music Workshops to study with the master himself, Dick Grove. Bill had a tremendously wonderful time while attending the school and playing local gigs at clubs and private events. At the end of his year at Dick Grove, Bill received a recommendation from Paul Goldfield (the engineering instructor at the school) to MCA-TV (now NBC Universal) to work as a staff composer. That was the start of Bill’s career as a film and tv composer. My music can be seen all over the world in syndicated television (tv) shows and films. I even have a three second sound-bite in the movies “The Ring” with Naomi Watts and “Unbreakable” with Bruce Willis and Samuel L. Jackson (look for “I Am Weasel” playing on a tv set in both films. My film and tv music is published in part by my publishing company Fulltone Music and in part by the various production companies I have worked for. BMI has been the PRO (Performing Rights Organization) of my music since 1989.

Bill has also worked as an orchestrator and copyist and is known for his big band writing which recently (2008) has become more in demand from high school and university music departments, music camps, and established big bands throughout the world. Bill also started the Bill Fulton Band in 2002. The Bill Fulton Band is a jazz fusion octet that features some of the greatest talents in Los Angeles. The Bill Fulton Band without a doubt represents LA’s (Los Angeles’) top players and musicians performing jazz fusion, smooth jazz, funk, pop, and classical styles.

Bill Fulton was born on July 4, 1962 (yes! born on the 4th of July!!) in Oakland, California and spent his childhood in nearby Alameda. Bill began his music exploration at the age of 7 on the trumpet, later switching to piano at the age of 14. He attended Cal State University at Hayward as a music composition major. After Cal State Hayward, Bill worked extensively in the Bay Area as a performer, teacher, composer, arranger, and engineer. As a keyboardist in the Bay Area Bill worked with Sheila E., KSAN radio personality Steve Jordan, Chuck Mangione guitarist Grant Geissman, popular Bay Area R&B/Top 40 group Touch n Go as well as many other fine musical ensembles.

Through contacts that he made at this world-renowned school, Bill landed a staff position as a composer on the Universal Studios lot for MCA TV and The Arthur Company Television and Motion Pictures in August 1988. While at the Arthur Company, Bill created themes and underscore for “The Munsters Today”, “The New Dragnet”, “The New Adam 12″, “FBI: The Untold Stories”, and many other industrial/instructional films and commercials.

In 1993 began writing music for Warner Bros./Hanna-Barbera Cartoons/Cartoon Network for the “I Am Weasel”, “Cow & Chicken” and “What A Cartoon!” animated series. During this period, Bill also wrote music for three animated Cheetos spots for international ad agency BBDO and underscore for the Nickelodeon series “Poochini”.

In 2002 Bill launched the Bill Fulton Band, which released an album called “Time” (2002) and has played in many Los Angeles venues including the Playboy Jazz Festival. The Bill Fulton Band features legendary saxophonist Ernie Watts on occasion.

Since 2003, Bill has worked  as a keyboardist for the live stage shows of Suzanne Somers, Connie Stevens, legendary trumpetist/comedian Jack Sheldon, and many other notable Los Angeles artists and ensembles.
