Creepy Building Marysville CA
Creepy Building Marysville CA is how I remember this striking old structure that caught my attention while passing through Marysville in February 2015. I was returning to Los Angeles after a gig at Feather Falls Casino in Oroville with the Rory Partin Big Band. As we traveled through town, I saw this abandoned building at 420 5th Street. It was one of the creepiest buildings I had ever seen.
The building was the former Hotel Marysville. Its size, boarded-up windows, aging exterior, and prominent location made it impossible to miss. Although I knew nothing about its history at the time, it looked like a structure from another era that had simply been left behind.
The Creepy Building in Marysville Was Hotel Marysville
Hotel Marysville dated to the 1920s and was once an important part of downtown Marysville. By the time I encountered it in 2015, however, the hotel had been vacant for decades. That long period of abandonment gave the building the eerie appearance captured in my photograph.
Sadly, the building’s story eventually came to an end. A major fire severely damaged Hotel Marysville in June 2024. The remaining structure presented serious safety concerns and was subsequently demolished. Therefore, this photograph now documents a Marysville landmark that no longer stands.
A Memory From the Road
For a working musician, unusual sights can become part of the memories surrounding a performance. In this case, the trip back to Los Angeles became memorable because of an unexpected encounter with an abandoned hotel in Marysville.
The original reason for the trip was a performance at Feather Falls Casino with Rory Partin’s big band. However, seeing Hotel Marysville became an interesting footnote to that weekend. I stopped long enough to photograph the building because its appearance was so unusual.
Looking at the image years later is especially interesting now that the hotel is gone. What was simply a photograph of a creepy building in Marysville, CA, has become a small historical record of how Hotel Marysville appeared during its final decade.
