Los Angeles composer, arranger, orchestrator, and keyboardist Bill Fulton’s CD release ‘About 12:00am’ features Eric Marienthal, Ernie Watts, Gary Novak, Mike Miller, and many other great LA musicians. Three years in the making, this CD features jazz compositions and arrangements by Bill Fulton for his octet ‘The Bill Fulton Band’ which has performed in many venues in Los Angeles.

About 12:00am is a Bill Fulton jazz album released in 2009, featuring nine tracks of original compositions and distinctive arrangements. The recording combines jazz, funk, fusion, smooth jazz and contemporary ensemble writing, with Bill Fulton serving as producer, composer, arranger and keyboardist.
The album grew out of Fulton’s work with the Bill Fulton Band and showcases his approach to writing for a compact horn section and rhythm section. Although the ensemble is smaller than a traditional big band, the arrangements use detailed voicings, ensemble passages and featured solos to create a full and varied sound.

The album explores a wide musical range. For example, Shizzle Dizzle emphasizes a funky groove, while Girl of the Moment moves toward a smoother contemporary jazz sound. Nighthawks uses a 3/4 funk feel, and Sleeps with the Dishes features complex horn writing and an unusual rhythmic approach.
